Did you know that Bolivia is one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet? Our 6-day Madidi Protected Area and Santa Rosa de Yucuma Municipal Reserve program shows you why. You will spend 1 day in Rurrenabaque, today known as the gateway to Madidi and a former logging, rubber and quinine boom town, 2 days in the rainforests of Madidi and 2 days in the Beni pampas. Both destinations give you a new appreciation for the natural and cultural history of this dynamic region, currently a frontier region in Bolivia's hopes to "conquer" the northern part of the department of La Paz and the western reaches of the department of Beni.

In Rurrenabaque, La Paz on Foot has partnered with Eslabon, an association of indigenous people's groups that have committed themselves to developing tourism programs that benefit local communities and work to protect the landscapes and biodiversity of the region. Their goals are important and worth supporting, as the degradation pressures on Madidi and the Beni  are intensifying due to the numerous natural resources found in the area.

Accomodations in both Madidi and the pampas are typical cabaņas made from local materials such as palm and vines and are safe, comfortable and well-screened to keep out biting insects. Our local guides are knowledgeable about the plants, animals and human activities in the region and will share their knowledge with you. If you like nature and want to experience a wide array of wildlife and plant species, we highly recommend this trip.
